Musical composers, performers, teachers, and patrons who identify or align with women have played significant roles in the creation of music throughout history. This course will celebrate and investigate women’s contributions to musical and sonic history, delving into artistic traditions from around the world and throughout time. Students will have the opportunity to engage with readings, discussions, films, and participate in a hands-on research project investigating the intersection of gender, social dynamics, and music. No prior musical experience is necessary to succeed in this course.
