The BMA in Performance aims to prepare music performers for careers as musicians, a wide-ranging profession that necessitates a variety of skills and talents and the ability to create
one’s own path. It consists of general music coursework, a multi-disciplinary core that focuses on career-readiness, and the Converse Core (Essential).
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Students will demonstrate thorough competency in the technical fundamentals and performance skills of the student's primary performing specialty, both individually and collaboratively.
2. Students will demonstrate the understanding of analytical, historical, and cultural issues in music.
3. Students will demonstrate the readiness skills applicable to a career as a free-lance performing musician.
To earn a BMA in Performance, a student must have a 2.0 GPA in all required music coursework.
Converse Core: Essential GEP
Music Core (Required Courses for all)
MUH 100 Recital Attendance - 6 semesters required.
In Music Core classes that are sequential (MUH, MUT, and Piano Class) students must receive a C- in each class before proceeding to the next class in the sequence.
Career-Readiness Tracks
Each student should complete the Vocal, Instrumental, or Piano Performance Track, as well as select two classes from the Career-Readiness Elective list.
