This course acquaints the prospective teacher in learning disabilities and intellectual disabilities with the knowledge of: typical and atypical language development; the influence of culture in ways of communicating and behaving; strategies to enhance language development and communication skills for students with disabilities; and strategies and resources that facilitate understanding of subject matter for individuals with exceptional learning needs whose primary language is not English or for students who require alternative and augmentative communication systems.
